Task 2: The best way to solve traffic and transport problems is to encourage people to live in cities rather than in suburbs or countryside. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The table presents data on the percentage of tax revenue collected as a proportion of GDP in five countries (Sweden, the USA, Korea, Japan, and Turkey) in the years 1975, 1985, 1995, and 2005.
Overall, Sweden experienced a consistent and substantial increase in its tax-to-GDP ratio, while the USA’s figures remained relatively stable. Other countries, including Korea, Japan, and Turkey, showed varying degrees of growth over the period, with Japan seeing the most significant rise among them.
Sweden consistently had the highest percentage of tax revenue, beginning at 46% in 1975 and steadily increasing to reach 70.1% by 2005. This was the most notable growth in the table. In contrast, the USA maintained a relatively stable tax-to-GDP ratio, starting at 25.1% in 1975 and slightly fluctuating to end at 27.4% in 2005.
Korea and Turkey followed somewhat similar trends. Korea’s tax revenue increased sharply from 15.1% in 1975 to 27% by 1985, after which it remained relatively stable, finishing at 27.3% in 2005. Turkey, on the other hand, started slightly higher at 16.4% in 1975, saw a dip to 15% by 1985, but then climbed steadily to 27.4% in 2005, matching the USA’s figure for that year.
Japan demonstrated the most significant change after Sweden. Beginning at 15% in 1975, its tax revenue increased progressively, peaking at 32.1% in 2005, marking a substantial rise over the period.
